Angelic vocals and moving melodic guitar ensure Melo Park have a sound as laid back as their name – and a very different tip from singer Sian Evans’ other band, dance act Kosheen! With the sun high in the sky, this duet from Wales will be capturing the mood from the off at Falmouth Sound.
With the squats and parties of the Cardiff music scene as a backdrop, Sian Evans (carrying a notebook of poems) and Simon Kingman (with a guitar on his back) instantly found common ground in their love of music. Exchanging mix tapes and opinions on everything from Joni Mitchell to Welsh folk, the duo soon started sharing pub gigs as they embarked on forming teenage bands together.
After years of going their separate ways – Sian finding success as the lead singer of drum’n’base and dance act Kosheen and Simon setting up renowned venue, The Toucan, in the Welsh capital – a spontaneous reunion in aid of the Tsunami disaster in 2006 sparked the beginning of a new project that would develop over the years. Amongst coffee cups, discarded plectrums and dog-eared lyric books, the two found a new sound with old ideals. The result was Melo Park – and we’re sure you’ll love it as much as we do.
